Breaking the Cycle of Abuse: Safeguarding Adults and Children E-Learning package
Background
The Learning package has been co-ordinated by Derbyshire Mental Health Services NHS Trust and developed in partnership with a number of public sector bodies.
This training will ensuring that all new and existing public sector employees (including the NHS, Social services, police and voluntary sectors) who may come
into contact with children or vulnerable adults receive adequate induction and up to date information in awareness and recognition of abuse.
The Issues
Many of the services provided are separated into either children or adult provision.
Children’s practitioners often recognise the needs of the children, but not the vulnerable adult,
whereas adult practitioners often recognise the needs of the adult but not the child.
There is also a lack of clarity, with staff and volunteers not understanding their responsibilities
and roles and the role of the others in safeguarding situations.
The Benefits
- This training will support the general public sector strategic objective of having all newly appointed staff undergo training in recognising abuse as part of their induction.
- Practitioners have reported that already improvements have been made to the health and safety of individuals as a result of the use of the Package.
- The initial reports from staff who have used the e-learning package have indicated that they have found the materials relating to their immediate role, in which ever agency working with children or adults, extremely beneficial.
- The package has helped to clarify their responsibilities and improved their knowledge of the roles of a range of other agencies to safeguard their service users.
- Further feedback indicates that the improvements to the health and well being of service users are being sustained through more effective multi agency work.
Working with NHS Innovations East Midlands, the Derbyshire team are now in the process of developing a web based programme with an industrial partner to allow greater access to the training.
